About Charley


Charley Perez founded the Rocky Mountain Triathlon Club in 2003 and continues to be the driving force behind the ongoing operations of the club. As one of the active coaches for RMTC, he prepares and leads the weekly group workouts.  From 2001 through 2013, Charley coached the Team in Training Triathlon Teams through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.   Charley is a USAT Certified Coach and through CP Fitness and Training, he provides individual training plans for triathletes, runners, swimmers, and cyclists.  While in graduate school at Wichita State University, Charley worked 3 years as an assistant track and cross-country coach with the middle and long distance runners. While serving in the Peace Corps, Charley served as an assistant coach to the late Arthur Lydiard, New Zealand’s famed National Running Coach.

Charley has always found time to dedicate himself to his passion – competitive athletics. He has been a life long runner, competing in high school and college track and cross-country. As an accomplished marathoner, in 1982, he completed the Boston Marathon. In 1998, as a veteran competing in the 50-54 year old division, Charley earned three National Championships and two 2nd place finishes at the National Master’s Track Meet in Orono, Maine. In 1993, he completed his first triathlon and after many years of competing in Sprint, Olympic and Half-Ironman distances, he qualified for the 2003 Triathlon World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, where he placed second in the 55-59 age group division and was the only American in the top 5. In 2005, he finished 5th at the Age Group ITU Olympic Distance World Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii.  In 2003, Inside Triathlon Magazine ranked Charley the top triathlete in his age group and in 2005, he was ranked in the top five. USAT consistently awards Charley All-American Honors in their yearly rankings.
