    Charley's Philosophy of

Coaching and Life

My philosophy for coaching and life is simple.  I believe people have an innate drive to achieve.  I want to assist people accomplish their sports related dreams by building on that drive and the personal strengths that can be improved.  By building on strengths, people experience success and are therefore more willing to take risks in the areas where they are less skilled.  No matter where a person starts their training, new skills can be learned and improved upon.

As I work with people I enjoy getting to know about the other areas of their lives. This information allows me to better understand their passions and dreams and allows me to approach their training based upon what drives them.   I want to be competent and capable in the activities I take on.  Maintaining my knowledge base and constantly learning about new training methods allows me to make many options available to the people I coach.  This competence is very important to me because as people look to me for guidance and I want to provide accurate information.  Achieving credentials as a triathlon coach makes me a professional in the field and I want to be worthy of that professionalism.

Part of my life philosophy is to work hard, and have fun too.  To be a successful athlete you have to work hard.  As you get fit and improve your skills, I believe you’ll find a new level of joy and fun as you participate in your sport. My education and training as a psychologist has helped me better understand people, listen and communicate with them.  The more I work with others, the better I understand the need for flexibility and creativity in this work.

Athletic competition, fitness, and people have been my lifelong passions.  I hope I can pass my spirit and enthusiasm on to others as they get involved and want to be called athletes.
